On the Information Loss in the Translation of Social Deixis in A Dream of Red Mansions

社会指示语是指语言结构中能反映出语言使用者的社会面目和相对社会地位的那些词语和语法范畴。汉英两种语言在社会指示语方面存在显著差异,给翻译造成了困难。在杨宪益《红楼梦》英译本中,也难免存在社会指示语翻译中的信息流失。

Social deixis is the words and grammatical structures of the language which reflect the .social identities of the language users and the .social relationship between them. In terms of social deixis, Chinese is greatly different from English, posing an obstacle to translation. In the English version of Yang Xianyi＇s A Dream of Red Mansions also exists the information loss in the translation of social deixis.
