On Translation Countermeasures of Metaphor between English and Chinese Language from Cross-cultural Perspective

隐喻在人类语言文学的发展和演变历程中发挥着巨大的作用。纽马克提出了7种翻译隐喻的方法,并依据使用频率的高低依次分类。经过比较发现,直接等喻法、变通换喻法、补偿释喻法、译意舍喻法易于英汉隐喻互译,更利于跨文化成功交际。

Metaphor plays vital role in the process of development of language and literature. Newmark put forward seven kinds of translation strategies of metaphor. After comparing, we find the use of direct and equal metaphor, modificating or changing the original metaphor by simile or another metaphor, explaining the simile or metaphor by compensating the connotative meaning, and translating the literal or extended meaning but deleting the original metaphor are easier methods in translation and effective in cross--cultural communication.
