In July 2008, the Ninth Web-Age Information Management （WAIM） Conference was held in Zhangjiajie, China. This special section contains four papers invited from the 46 full-length papers that were presented at the conference and published in the WAIM2008 proceedings. All four papers were augmented with new materials and went through two rounds of rigorous reviews after being invited. We wish to thank the anonymous reviewers for their meticulous comments and constructive suggestions.
