Chang Pi-shih's Practice and Thought on Agriculture

尽管张弼士参与开创了包括银行、铁路等一批现代工商企业,他却一直非常重视农业生产。他在南洋依靠土地开发和种植业而成为巨富。他在给清廷的《商务条陈》中极力强调农业在国民经济中的基础地位。他认为:在民生困弊的情况下,首先要兴农以解决民生问题;在"商战"时代里更要以兴农为本。晚清新政期间,他在广东积极投资和开发两广的农业,提倡农业科技。

Chang Pi - shih attached importance to agriculture at all times. By developing land and field - crop production, he became a very wealthy businessmen. He emphasized the importance of agrieulture in his suggestions he gave the Qing government on how China might Make Commerce Flourish. He thought that the agriculture must be made flourish in the commercial war era. He actively invested in the agriculture, and advocated science and technology in Guangdong and Guangxi province during the late Qing dynasty.
