Implications of Reading Research Accomplishments on Reading English Teaching in Polytechnics

摘要 国内外语言学家的研究表明,阅读有助于学习者利用语境习得英语词汇。语言学家从认知的角度先后提出了自下而上、自下而上和交互三种阅读的认知模式。由此可见,阅读不但是一种解码过程,也是读者和作者之间沟通和交流的过程。研究表明,在阅读过程中使用母语翻译理解阅读材料有利于产生和保留意义。作者通过对以上研究成果及任务型教学理论成果进行回顾,主张高职大学英语阅读课堂教学设计应该采用任务型教学,以纠正传统英语阅读教学脱离生活实际、不利于培养学生英语应用能力的弊端。 Researches by linguists at home and abroad indicate that reading enables learners to acquire vocabulary with the help of contexts. Linguists put forward three cognitive models of reading successively : the bottom - up model, the top - down model and the interactive model. From this it is clear that reading is not only a process of encoding but also a process of communication and exchange between the reader and the writer. Research shows that using the first language to process reading materials helps readers to produce and retain meanings of the materials. By reviewing the above research accomplishments as well as accomplishments on task - based teaching, the author posits that reading English teaching in polytechnics should be task - based in order to associate it with real life and cultivate students' ability in applying English in real life situations.
