"Going through the back door" in commodity distribution in the 1960s not only aggravated the shortage of commodity supply, but also produced bad effects on the relations between the Party and the masses and between the cadres and the ordinary people. Looking at this problem from the high plane of generating revisionism and leading to the destruction of the Party and state the central authorities of the Party pointed out the possible grave consequences of this unhealthy tendency and launched across the whole society a mass campaign against "going through the back door" in commodity distribution. This campaign plugged up leaks in commodity circulation and enterprise management, restored the normal circulation and supply of commodities, alleviated the national eco- nomic difficulties, exposed a number of cases involving violations of law and breaches of discipline and punished a number of degenerates. All these measures succeeded in bringing the once rampant "going through the back door" under control to some extent. A review and study of this campaign now fading from people' s memory will provide valuable historical reference to the going-on anti-corruption struggle at present.
