摘要 《拜金一族》是当代美国"剧坛双星"之一——大卫.马梅特的一部代表性剧作。该剧不仅为马梅特赢得了1984年的普利策奖,也奠定了他在美国剧坛的地位。作为"失梦一代"的一位重要剧作家,马梅特在《拜金一族》中亦突出了"失梦"的主题。面对竞争的压力与成功的诱惑,《拜金一族》中的房地产推销员们尔虞我诈,勾心斗角,不惜一切代价力图获得竞争优势,取得梦寐以求的成功。原本强调通过个人奋斗而走上成功之路的美国梦也因人们不择手段追逐功利而蜕变成一股腐朽的力量,侵蚀着深陷其中的人们,然而人们最终收获的只不过是苦涩不堪的幻灭感。 As an influential playwright belonging to the generation of the ＂lost dream＂, David Mamet highlighted the theme of lost dream in Glengarry Glen Ross in which the salesmen attack each other to get one-upmanship at any loss. The once inspiring American Dream has become a decaying force as people only focus on success＇while ignoring morality. However, what people finally get is a bitter sense of disillusionment.
