Implicit Evaluation in Ideational Perspective

摘要 自从J.M artin提出评价理论以来,国内外发表了大量有关评价的功能和体现方式的著作和文章。这些著作和文章把人际意义的研究从语法层面扩展到词汇层面,从而丰富了M.A.K.Halliday的系统功能语言学理论。然而,这些研究至少有两个局限性。一是主要从人际的角度研究评价,对概念意义等其他角度没有给予足够的重视;二是把主要精力用于显性评价研究,忽视了隐性评价的讨论。本文将从概念意义的角度出发,论述评价的功能及其隐性表现方式,即讲话者如何通过使用那些表面上属于描写性质的词汇和语义结构表达自己的态度,作出自己的判断,表示自己的欣赏程度,从而证明隐性评价对于进一步完善评价理论的重要性。 Ever since the Appraisal Theory was put forward by J. Martin, there have been a lot of publications about the function and realization of evaluation in language. These publications have extended the study of interpersonal meaning from grammar to lexis within the theoretical framework of Halliday' s systemic-functional linguistics. However, they seem to have two limitations. First they look at evaluation mainly from the interpersonal perspective without giving adequate consideration to other perspectives such as the ideational. And second, they focus their attention on explicit evaluation with implicit evaluation largely ignored. This paper attempts to examine the significance and realization of implicit evaluation from the ideational perspective, i.e. how the speakers express their attitude, make their judgment and show their appreciation through the use of seemingly purely descriptive words and semantic structures in transitivity, so as to prove the importance of implicit evaluation in the further development of the Appraisal Theory.
