As a poet with strong poetry theory-practice consciousness, Wallace Stevens probes the essential way nature works upon observer's imagination in his masterpiece short poem The Snow Man while stressing the constructive role played by the poet's observation and imagination in the construction of the artistic world. Stevens illuminates the strong color of American Romanticism-Transcenden- talism and notion of phenomenology, emphasizes the integration and unification of Man and Nature, demonstrates the state of "transparent self" proposed by Emerson and displays the return of Romanticism in the modernism dominant poetry in the 20th century of the United States.
