This paper approaches the euphemistic use of language from cognitive perspective with the view that metaphor and metonymy are the two very important means in the formation of euphemism. By getting to know its essence, this paper intends to help language users and researchers to better understand and use euphemism, thus promoting, to a certain extent, the more effective human communication.
