The Rhythm of Emotion Based on Motif: Thomas Gray's Exploring and Practicing of Posody in His Poems

感伤主义诗人托马斯.格雷的诗作除了《墓园挽歌》被人们所珍视外,其它诗作往往被人忽视。其实他的其它诗作也如《墓园挽歌》一样,在用词、意象、韵律等方面十分精采。本文分析他在韵律多样化、韵律与诗歌主题相锲合方面做出的许多探索,试图更好地理解诗人在表现多样的情感上对韵律的把握,给予其艺术成就一个更高的评价。

The poems of representative Sentimentalist, Thomas Gray, were disregarded by most readers, except his masterpiece, Elegy. Actually,most of his poems are as elegant as his Elegy,especially when entertaining from phraseology,imagery and prosody etc. In this paper, the author analyses Gray＇ s poems upon their diversification of rhythms and properness of rhythm using according to motif. In such doing, Gray could be appreciated better for his mastering of meters to express emotions, and appraised higher for his artistic achievement.
