Tag Questions and Evidentiality in Conversation

本文从会话分析的视角研究中英文中的附加问,主要讨论附加问句在会话中的传信功能。作者认为,附加问句不只表达说话人关于某一信息的认识情态,在交际互动中也表达了对听话人信息、态度的预期,从而起到一种特殊的传信功能。

This paper investigates tag questions in Chinese and English with reference to evidentiality. The author argues that tag questions play a special role in marking evidentiality, because they relate to （ presuppositions about） knowledge and attitudes of the hearer as well as to what the speaker knows and believes. Multiple evidential functions are described for tag questions beyond the marking of uncertainty traditionally associated with them.
