The study of chaos applied in information processing is a challenging task. A large amount of scientific achievement has been widely reported in the academic literatures and important international conferences. A survey is presented for the progress made in this field with a focus on the introduction of commonly used chaotic systems and their principles of application. The thought of chaotic system used to information processing has provided possibilities for realizing of complicated functions. Finally, prospective directions for further developments of the field are discussed.
