污泥的加药调质条件对脱水性能的影响很大，在加药调质中，根据污泥性质，正确选择凝聚剂和絮凝的种类、规格和投加量是很关键的。在具体的调质工艺过程中，还有一些值得注意的环节。污泥脱水效果不佳，并不一定是脱水机的性能、污泥性或调质药剂等原因所至，有可能是在具体的调质工艺操作中的一些易忽视的环节出了问题，而这些对污泥调质效果往往是至关重要的。
