In modem Chinese literature, the stories of clans have been a usual theme. And in the novels by Zhang Ailing （1920 -1995）, such topics concerning with clan culture as the feudal and the modem, the good and evil of humanities, the up and down of a clan, have been arranged under a sad context, which has offered a special perspective to narrate the stories of clans. To the writer herself, however, the writing of clan stories is not only a writing practice in traditional way to meet her own spiritual needs but also a narration of her own understanding of human~ life.
