The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stands to receive a significant increase in funding under President Obama's proposed budget, announced at the beginning of May. The budget includes a 19 per cent increase in funding, a boost from USD 2.Tbn in the 2009 fiscal year to USD 3.2bn for 2010. "This historic increase in the FDA's budget is a great investment in public health," says Joshua Sharfstein, M.D., acting commissioner of the FDA.
