The Food and Drug Administration （FDA） stands to receive a significant increase in funding under President Obama＇s proposed budget, announced at the beginning of May. The budget includes a 19 per cent increase in funding, a boost from USD 2.Tbn in the 2009 fiscal year to USD 3.2bn for 2010. ＂This historic increase in the FDA＇s budget is a great investment in public health,＂ says Joshua Sharfstein, M.D., acting commissioner of the FDA.
