The First Outside Shanhaiguan to Study Buddhism in India

唐僧取经的故事可谓家喻户晓。但是，历史上还有比唐僧更早的西天取经人，北燕高僧昙无竭就是其一。昙无竭取经出发时间是公元420年，比唐僧取经早了207年。

In 420, during the period of the Northern Yan State, Tan Wu Jie went pilgrimage to India. He did so 209 years earlier than Tang Seng who went to India for Buddhist study during the Tang Dynasty （618-907）.
