吴起方言属于晋语志延片,处于陕北晋语与中原官话的过渡地带,兼具两种方言的音韵特点。某些特征鲜明的音韵特点表明关中方言对吴起方言的影响久远而且异常深刻。由于移民因素的影响,吴起县境内可以分为三个方言小片,各片之间的韵母和声调系统存在明显的差异。
