On the Outlook on Morality of the Pre-Qin Assassins and the Confucianist Tradition

先秦刺客的行为,不仅是"士为知己者死"的简单报恩,还蕴含着最初的"忠信"和"仁义"的思想道德观。虽然它还比较片面和狭隘,但通过进一步分析则可以发现,其某些积极的方面与儒家传统道德思想有相似之处,并对儒家传统道德思想的起源和形成产生了很大影响。

The behaviors of the pre-Qin assassins are not merely acts of repaying a debt of gratitude, as is expressed in the saying ＂The gentleman dies for the friend＂, they also contain the initial morality outlook of loyalty and faithfulness, and benevolence and righteousness. Although this outlook seems to be somewhat one-sided and narrow-minded, further analysis may reveal that it has certain positive aspects, which are similar to the traditional Confucianist ideology and morality and may have had tremendous influence on the formation of the Confucianist thought.
