With the deepening of reform in China's economic system, housing as part of welfare is now being commercialized, which entails new demands for housing design. This paper aims at enlightening housing designers in the following aspects:1) Comfort: Maintain a good link between all the functional spaces in the residence, allow relevant independence and allocate suitable dimensions. Allocate communicating spaces in the residential buildings and create more opportunities for residential communication.2) Adaptability to the living space: Capable of continued development, adaptation to market demands and the changes in family structure.3) Economy in residential construction: economy of land and energy in particular.4) Security in residence: To meet the demands of physical and psychological security.5) Unity in living environment: including comprehensiveness and compatibility of facilities, pipework, furniture and decoration (kitchen and toilet in particular).6) Science and technology in the residence: improve the quality of housing, promotion and utilization of new technology, new craftsmanship, new materials, new facilities and enhance the intelligent functions of housing.7) Provinciality of the residential form: the modeling, elevation, color and detail treatment in residential construction should be combined with climate, living customs and cultural traditions etc..
