尚长荣主演的《曹操与杨修》20年来久演不衰,在新时期戏曲发展中占有历史性的领军地位,也标志了尚长荣艺术的确立。在该剧中,尚长荣第一次对曹操进行了人物重塑,并以此典型、集中地体现了新时期戏曲发展中对人性的开掘与剖示;也全新的以曹操形象,第一次构筑起超越铜锤、架子两门抱的全能型和性格化的新净行艺术,再次揭示了传统持续生长的规律。在这些"第一"之中,都蕴含了某种普遍的意义。
