Modern Self: An Analytical Perspective of Romanticism

近年来,把浪漫主义思潮置入现代性这一宏大的历史语境中来重新审视其历史本质是西方学界兴起的一种新的浪漫主义研究范式。而主体性的"自我"观是现代性的核心元素,那么在现代性这一自启蒙运动以来至今仍然深刻地影响着我们生活方式的宏大语境中,浪漫主义中的自我所居的位置将是一个有意义的话题。简而言之,浪漫主义思潮,其生成的特定历史条件就是现代性。讨论现代性与浪漫主义的关系也必然围绕自我主体性而展开,但也要避免从社会习俗和社会道德的束缚中寻求解放的理解的简单化倾向。

In recent years a new research paradigm of romanticism has emerged in the West, which has been employed to re-exam the nature of romanticism by putting it into a grand historical context of modernity. In such a sense, ＂The Self＂ is the core element of modernity. The position of ＂The Self＂ in romanticism is a meaningful topic in the grand historical context of modernity which has had a profound impact on our way of life since the enlightenment. In short, romanticism is historically based on modernity. Then the discussion on the relation between modernity and romanticism is bound to focus on the subjectivity; nevertheless, the oversimplification of pursuing the understanding liberated from social customs and ethics should be avoided.
