Malaysia's Ethnic Harmony and the Roles Played by Economy and Education

从马华两大族群的经济和教育发展切入,探讨了马亚西亚减少族群暴力冲突,维持族群相对和谐与社会相对稳定的深层原因。马来西亚在各种族群矛盾交织和冲突的情况下,得以维持族群相对和谐与社会稳定,一个主要原因,是马华两族,或该国大多数国民的经济生活和教育发展的需求得到了基本的满足。

Through a careful analysis of the economic and educational development of the two major ethnic groups of Malaysia, i. e. the indigenous Malays and the ethnic Chinese, this article explores the hidden factors behind the harmonious ethnic relations in the country while querying why the violent conflicts among different ethnic groups have considerably been reduced and the social order has basically been stable over the past decades. The author argues that one of the main reasons for a relatively harmonious ethnic relationship currently being maintained in Malaysia is that the needs of the two major ethnic groups in economy and education have largely been met. In fact, majority of the Malaysian citizens are satisfied with the situation.
