浅议近代北京慈善事业中的西方宗教力量

On the Influence of Western Religious Organisations on the Charities in Modern History of Beijing Area

北京地区传统慈善事业走向近代化的过程中,西方来华宗教力量是一个不容忽视的积极因素。它们开展多种形式的慈善救助活动,发挥出一定的救助功效,并对北京近代医疗、教育和文化事业等产生较大的推进作用。然而,由于它们开展慈善活动的主观侵略意图,以及实际上整个中华民族为此所付出的沉重代价,使得北京近代慈善事业被笼罩上一层浓厚的半殖民地色彩。因此,西方来华宗教力量对中国慈善事业的近代转型具有"双刃剑"的历史影响。

In the course of the modernization of traditional charities in Beijing area, the religious influence from the west was an un-negligible force. For being engaged in various charity activities, they brought specific effect in fact, and gave a push to the development of education, culture, medicine and health and so on. However, for the reason of their aggressive aim, and the facts that the whole country of China suffered loss bitterly at a high price, the charity of modem history was character by pronounced semi colony. In a word, the western religious organisations had a double influence upon the modernization of traditional charities in Beijing area.
