There has been a longstanding conflict between two concepts in narrative： the psychological character and the functional character. Any application of serious analysis will touch the deep culture nerves. The differences between the two lies in the narrative power of a text. Characterdriven logic of the text is only an image, and its forces are from the coercive power discourse. This complex reconciliation may be a way out to the confrontation of the two character concepts in modern narrative theory.
