[ Objective ] All kinds of blood cells of Hemibarbus maculatus were described in order to collect the material of its hematology and compared cytology and provide the reference for its artificial raising and disease diagnosis. [ Method ] The blood of 28 Hemibarbus maculatus fishes were made and stained with Wright and Giemsa's. The morphological characteristics of tbe blood cells were evaluated with the Nikon- DXMI200 digital microphotography and tested with Image Pro plus. [ Results] The result indicated that the phenomenon of red blood cell was direct cell division. There were two types of red blood cells, Type I was close related to the reticulocyte. The neutrophilic granulocyte was generally spherical form, with single nucleus with muhiply variation and few in two-lohopodia nucleus and the dissolution of aging cell. The eosinophilic granulocyte was generally spherical form with same character as neutrophilic granulocyte. The monocyte was with the pseudopodialike protrusions, large nuclear occupied about 1/2 of whole cell, some 3/4 of whole cell. The lymphocytes was irregular spherical form and two classes of lymphocytes( large and small) were seen, but no quantitative distinction was made between these. Thrombocyte shape was variable being either elongate, oval, spiked, spindle or some unable-describe forms. The basophils were absent. [ Conclusion] There were 6 types of peripheral blood cells of Hemibarbus maculates and not basophils.
