Abstract The word “document” enjoys a rong history and the explanations about it have always reen a guestion for the academic circles to discuss.This article sammarizes the developing process of document and proclaims its essenee through the different views of explanation at all times,the constitution of the four basic elements:the information of the document,the discrimination of the signal,the solid state of the carrier and the appearance of the formation.
