《喜福会》是以描写边缘文化为基本特征的名篇佳作。谭恩美对书中八位美籍华裔母女进行了生动细腻的描写,揭示了她们复杂而矛盾的心态。本论文尝试分析谭恩美在写作中象征手法的运用,从而阐述美国华裔女性实际被搁置在美国的社会、种族、文化的边缘境地,在身份求索的过程中扮演着"双面人"的角色。

The Joy Luck Club is famous for its borderline cultural background, in which Amy Tan describes the Chinese American mothers and daughters deeply and vividly and reveals their complicated and contrdictive frame of mind. This thesis is trying to analyze the symbolism in Tan＇s writing and thus conclude the borderline situation of Chinese American woman and their ＂double-faced＂ character in their quest for identity.
