针对新安煤矿块段小，煤层块段薄的采场条件，决定采用封闭式炮采，这种回采方法要求墩柱-弹性挡板联合作业，虽然弹性挡板可以买到，但墩柱的订货问题很难，而且工期也无法保证。为此提出了利用新安煤矿报废的QY-240支架立柱改制新型墩柱的设想，改制后的墩柱支撑力增加到500～600kN，实现了闲置设备的合理利用，满足了井下安全生产的需要。
