The Character of Yung Wing’s Modern Thoughts Based on My Life in China and America

中国近代“留学生之父”容闳，一生以“西学东渐”之志，寻“维新中国”之路，应时乘势地紧贴了近代社会新陈代谢的历史进程。借以他的自传体回忆录《西学东渐记》考察其现代化思想品格，凸现出了与时偕进的爱国精神、超人一筹的革新主张，以及尴尬边缘人的角色特征。

Yung Wing, ＂the father of foreign students＂ in modem China, was struggling to introduce western learning into China and searching the way to reform it in his lifetime. We observe the character of-Yung Wing＇s modem thoughts according to his autobiographical memoirs My Life in China and America, which highlights his patriotic spirit advancing with the time, superior innovation ideas and the characteristic of embarrassedly marginal man.
