摘要
本文选取发生于2001年的中美撞机事件为案例,详细分析了《纽约时报》的相关报道、美国公共舆论对这一事件的看法以及在这段时间内的美国对华政策,从实证的角度探讨了美国的大众传媒、公共舆论与美国对外政策之间的相互关系。研究结果表明,总统设定了大众传媒的议程;政府官员通过大众传媒设定了公众议程;公共舆论的变化是大众传媒的报道增强了公众对中国的成见所致;公共舆论和对外政策似乎存在着一定程度上的重合。
Based on the 2001 Sino- US airplane collision, this paper examines the New York Times coverage, public opinions and American foreign policy toward the issue, and discusses the reciprocal relationships concerned. The study indicates that American president set the agenda for mass media to a large extent, public agenda was largely shaped by government officials through mass media, and change in public opinions came as a result of established prejudice against China, reinforced by media coverage Besides, there appears to be a convergence between public opinions and foreign policies.
