摘要
The Tibetan Plateau, widely referred to as the “Roof of the World,” has been shrouded in mystery for centuries. Even today, the fullness of its uniqueness is unknown. From 1976 to 2003, Ma Lihua, chief editor of the China Tibetology Research Publishing House, lived in the northern reaches of the Tibet Autonomous Region. As she withstood tremendous hardships and perils in the ever-changing Tibet she recorded all of her experiences. Through her writing, Ma, the only woman writer from the Chinese mainland to live among the locals for so many years offers glimpses into the lifestyles of Tibetans and their religious beliefs, customs and habits. She also offers some insight into the reaion's population, history, economy and traditional culture.
