"成长如蜕"可以精炼而准确地概括黑塞成长小说的独特艺术个性,其包含三个方面:通过少年人的肉体成长彰显作品及作家的精神思想高度;对"死亡"的热衷和不停地在作品中对其加以涂抹,使文本具有了崇高的悲剧美;因受中国传统儒道思想的深刻影响,其作品中有浓重的中国文化情结。除此之外,对黑塞成长小说艺术个性的分析,也暴露出既有成长小说定义的若干缺陷。

＂Growing is like exuviation＂ is a summary of the unique personality of H. Hesse＇s bildungsroman. It includes three aspects： through the body growing of the juvenile people displays the height of mind and ideas of the author; to be fond of describing death and continuously repeating of it make the works lofty and tragic beauty ; having the influence of Chinese ideology of Confucianism and Taoism, the strong Chinese culture complex is found in his works. Besides, it reveals some imperfection in the definition of bildungsroman by analyzing the artistic individuality of his works.
