Women's Normal Life——On Betrayal and Anti-betrayal of Sue Bridehead in Jude the Obscure

淑.布莱赫德是哈代笔下的一个极为复杂的新女性形象,其追求平等与自由的言行背叛了父权制社会的婚姻观和宗教观。但在世俗力量和宗教观念的影响下以及在自己悲惨遭遇的打击下,淑不得不背叛自己的信念,回归到父权制社会所认同的"正当生活"中去。就在这种背叛与反背叛之间,充满着值得我们深思的问题,即女性在争取平等、自由的同时,如何去保护自己。

Sue Bridehead is an extremely complicated new woman image in Tomas Hardy＇ s novels. Her words and actions on the pursuit of equality and freedom greatly challenge the conventional view of marriage and the religious belief in the patriarchal society. Under the pressure of the convention and religious belief, struck by her life sufferings, she at last betrays her faith in pursuing freedom and equality, and returns to the normal life universally acknowledged by the patriarchal society. Between betrayal and anti-betrayal, there is much worth considering, that is while pursuing equality and freedom ,women should learn to protect themselves.
