中国特色社会主义事业总体布局在建国六十年间,以改革开放为界,大致经历了两个发展阶段。它是中国共产党人对马克思社会有机体理论的进一步丰富和发展;它的内容和结构从单一趋向丰富,适应了中国特色社会主义事业不断发展的要求;"总体布局"必须在以经济建设为中心的基础上继续优化其内部结构。它未来发展的趋势是包括生态建设在内的"五位一体"。

The development of the overall layout of the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics（＂overall layout＂ hereafter） has under gone two stages before and after the Reform and openingup. The article recalls the evolutional history of the ＂overall layout＂ and points out that it has enriched and developed Marxist integrated theories. Its rich content and structure is needed by the development of the socialist cause. With economic construction as its centre, the ＂overall layout＂ must continuously refine its internal structure, and its developing trend in the future is to be one of ＂five in one＂, including ecological construction.
