新疆生产建设兵团担负着保卫边疆、巩固国防的艰巨使命,20世纪中期兵团以维护军事安全为重心,70年代兵团撤销,国家西北安全形势严峻,80年代后兵团将经济、社会、文化、生态等纳入安全体系。研究新时期兵团屯垦戍边事业,对于构建长效戍边机制,确保国家西北安全,具有深远意义。

The Productive and Constructive Corps in Xinjiang is charged with the great mission for guarding the frontier and strengthening the national defense. The focuses of the corps＇ stationing troops to open up wasteland and defending the border vary from time to time. In the mid 20th century, the corps put main emphasis on military security; in the 1970s, as the military unit was rescinded, the national security was in imminent danger. In the late 1980s, the corps brought economy, society, culture and ecology into the security system. Therefore, it is of profound significance to study the career of defense of corps in the new times for establishing long-term defense mechanism and ensuring the security in the northwest.
