It's a great pleasure for me to be here today and have this opportunity to talk to you about my view of the future of computer science, because I think this is a very important time for those of you, the students. What I like to do is I like to start out by telling you a very quick story about the early part of my career. I graduated from Standford in 1964 from the electrical engineering department. This was before computer science got started. I was hired in coincidence in the electrical engineering department, and what I was asked to do was to teach a new course in computer science.
