To satisfy the requirements for mobile computing, the mobile middleware was introduced into the development of mobile application to improve the scalability and adaptability of the mobile system. The requirements for the mobile middleware were introduced. A service-based mobile middleware model was advanced. This model involved the use of several middleware distributed in the mobile computing system to support the system scalability. Architecture and design of the mobile middleware model were introduced and its performance was discussed in depth.
