我们于1997年进行的一次城市环境状况和居民环境意识调查表明：我国自改革开放以来城市环境状况越于好转，但大多数人对环境现状仍表示不满意；目前，大多数城市居民的环境意识还较弱。因此，必须大力开展环境教育，加强城市环境治理力度。

A questionnaire Survey on urban environment status and urban inhabitants' environment awareness was performed in 1997. With 7507 valid questionnaires received (from 30000 questionnaires sent out). it was found that since reform and openning up, China's urban environment had been gradually improved, however most urban Inhabitants still showed their dissatisfaction, and their environment awareness was needed to be raised Thus. it is essen tial to starl a campaign for public environment awareness education and enforce urban environment management
