“闻”与“嗅(臭、齅)”的历时替换研究

Research on the Diachronic Replacement of Wen "闻" and Xiu "臭(臭、齅)"

表示"用鼻子闻"这一概念,战国以前只用"嗅(臭、齅)",战国末期文献中始用"闻",西汉以后,"闻"替换了"嗅(臭、齅)"。为了不影响交际,基于词义引申所遵循的人类的共同的心理,"臭"专用于表示"气味","闻"替代"嗅","听"替代"闻",这些都是词汇系统发展、演变内部调整的结果。

To express the concept of ＂smell with the nose ＂, Xiu ＂臭 （臭、齅） ＂is used before the Warring States period, and Wen “闻” became to be used after the Warring States time. And it is after the Western Han Dynasty that Wen “闻” has become a commonly used word, instead of Xiu ＂臭 （臭、齅） ＂. This paper has combed through the replacing process between these two words and the reasons through the investigation of their using in literary writings.
