Skopostheorie is an important part of German Functionalism, which holds that all translation activities are determined by their overall purpose. The purpose of subtitle translation is to provide the most relevant information in the most efficient way to the target audience within the constraints of time and pace. This essay is trying to make a tentative study on the E-C English film subtitle translation methods from the perspective of Skopostheorie with abundant examples.
