An Analysis of the Relationship between Jia Baoyu and Zhuangzi

曹雪芹十分推崇《庄子》一书,他将自己对《庄子》的解读运用到了《红楼梦》的创作之中,这在贾宝玉形象的塑造上体现得尤为明显。在曹雪芹的笔下,《庄子》与贾宝玉有着密不可分的联系,它左右了贾宝玉的生活态度,影响了其性格的形成,还基本上主导了他的思想。

Cao Xueqin admired Zhuangzi so much that he applied his interpretation of it to his creation of the Dream of the Red Mansions. This is reflected in his portrayal of the character Jia Baoyu. Zhuangzi has great impact on Jia Baoyu： it influences his attitude to life, moulds his character and dominates his thinking.
