The paper probes into the contextual configuration and generic structural potential of the counter-offer letters in business contacts within the theoretical framework of systemic- functional linguists. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the interpretation and production of counter-offer letters in professional business settings and to shed more lights on China＇s ESP teaching, particularly on the teaching of business correspondence writing.
