The special location of Great Britain contributes to the emergence of a special literary genre: island literature. Heroes of these works usually drift to isolated islands for various reasons, and evolve in a series of mysterious, eccentric and thrilling stories, among which Robinson Crusoe and Lord of the Flies are the most typical and influential works. Both of them reflect the characteristics and features of their eras respectively. The isolated islands are not, as they seem to be, the locations sought by the authors to escape from their social realities. On the contrary, these island stories are just the vehicle for expressing the authors' profound thoughts on their societies.
