应激与自省:晚清民初文话发展的新路向

Response & Introspection:A New Trend of Prose Talks in the Late Qing and Early Republican Period

伴随科举制度的革废与白话文的兴起,晚清民初文话的传统生存场域发生了巨大的改变,而西潮东渐的汹涌之势更加大了承继传统与寻求新变之间的张力。就晚清民初文化氛围而言,传统面临的挑战来自西学的侵入与中学内部对传统的颠覆。传统自新的步伐因这双重冲击而加快,文话中所表现出的强调传统以对抗西潮,比附西学以求自新,无一不反映出西学给文章发展带来的压力。在新的生存空间中,因应西学以应激、返观本身而自省成为文话发展的新路向。

Due to the neoteric dissemination of western knowledge to China, the tension between inheriting tradition and seeking for new variants became greater and greater. Challenges came from the intrusion of western culture and the subversion of tradition. The pace of the rehabilitation of tradition quickened due to the double impact, and the practical aspects of traditional thoughts were emphasized. Then the internal differences gradually melted, and eventually a more unified position was formed. In the new living space, the tendency to respond to Western learning and to introspect paved the way for prose talks.
