Coal, oil, natural gas and nuclear energy are the four pillars of Japan's industrialized economy. Although Japan has has made considerable improvements in energy structure and efficiency, there remains serveral problems to be solved, including heavy import dependence, arguments in the development of nuclear energy, high household energy consumption, and sluggish development in renewable energies. Japan has taken a series of macro strategies and micro policies to solve these energy problems and to adapt to the changing situation.
