Since the 1990s, China has witnessed a great upsurge of remolding revolutionary classics, which is not accidental but bound up with various historical, social and aesthetic factors. It is in such a complex social context that The Red Lantern was remodeled into a TV play, and moreover, unlike the failure of other revolutionary classics, the play has met with much praise and acclaim from various social sectors. Therefore, alongside a probe made into the cultural mentality of the upsurge for remolding revolutionary classics, priority is given to analyzing the aesthetic notion, artistic traits, characters in the TV play The Red Lantern so as to reveal the multiple artistic functions of carrying forward and reestablishing the new-century “revolutionary culture” as embraced by the remolding of The Red Lantern and other revolutionary classics.
