The authoritarian personality consists of a set of corelative personality characteristics. People of this type are not simply the power-seekers. In spite of their civilized thoughts and skills, they adhere to the irrational and even anti-rational beliefs. In Women in Love, Lawrence creates a prototype of the authoritarian personality Gerald Crich. The penetrative description of this character shows the author＇s understanding of the psychological nature of the authoritarian personality as early as World War I, and Lawrence makes clear his critical attitude towards this personality.
