Clinical Observation on Treatment of 227 Cases of Prostatitis by Acupuncture

227 cases of prostatisis were treated by acupuncture combined with Chinese herbs according to their symptoms and signs of TCM and a satisfactory result had been obtained. Of all cases, 48 % were cured, 42. 7 were significantly improved, 9. 2 % were ineffective, the total effective rate was 90.7%. Clinical observation indicated that acupuncture combined with Chinese herbs could obtain a better ef fect than simple acupuncture therapy, effect for damp-heat going down type was better than that of spleen deficiency and damp retention type, particularly in acute cases of damp-heat going down type, the Chinese herbs can relieve clinical symptoms a1most immediately, and acupuncture can enforce the effect. The relation between the effect and disease duration was also discussed, generally speaking, the shorter the disease duration, the better the effect will be and the sooner the good result can be ob
