Innovation is the soul and force for a country＇ s development. In an era of knowledge economy, it is the top priority for university education to cultivate talents with innovative spirit, creative ability, and high quality. How to enforce the creative education, train the creative ability of university students is an urgent problem to deal with for each university. Food science ＆ engineering is a comprehensive major with technicali- ty and applicability, more innovative talents are needed in that field. In the research, features of food science ＆ engineering major, requirements for innovative students are analyzed, approaches to promote the innovative education are put forward. It is thought to emphasize innovative education in aspects, such as virtue education, course offering, experiment education, openended experiment, etc. , and to cultivate creative talents with hi-tech and modem management knowledge.
